Beyond the Normal School Year

Extended School Year is indicated in the IEP on the "Schedule Modification" page.  ESY is in the form of a longer school year (typically 5 or more weeks during the summer) or in the format of a longer school day.

The Team determines whether, without ESY services, the nature and/or severity of the student's disability is likely to prevent the student from receiving some benefit from his/her educational program during the regular school year.

Extended  School Year (ESY) is specialized instruction working towards IEP goals and includes related services. It is different than summer school or summer enrichment programs which a district may also be offering some students.
